What is a welcome message? A welcome message is the very first email sent after a person subscribes to your email list.
If you’re using a double optin, it’s NOT the one asking them to confirm their subscription. It’s the one after that; the one that says, “You made it! You’re definitely subscribed and here’s what you can expect from us.”
Here are a few tips for your welcome email campaign:
1. Send your welcome message immediately.
At the moment someone subscribes, is the moment you want to get into their inbox. Don’t wait four or five hours. They’ve moved on from being a hot lead at that point. For all you know, they moved on to a competitor’s website, and that competitor sent them a juicy coupon or tip in their welcome email that totally left you in the dust.
2. Personalize your welcome message.
Personalized subject lines have 50% higher open rates than generic ones. Personalized content helps boost click through rates, too. That might be as simple as adding the subscriber’s name to your subject line or referencing their name in the content of the email itself. Seems easy enough, right <>?
3. Have a clear call to action.
What is the next step you want someone to do after they’ve subscribed? Should they share something? Want them to go look at a sale? Should they read a white paper so they can prep for a call? Decide what the ONE thing is you want them to do, and make that clear in your welcome email.
4. Tell them what to expect.
If you’re going to send an email every day, say so. If you’re going to send a newsletter recapping your best content on Tuesdays, and a video tutorial on Thursdays, tell them that. Let them know when to expect you, and what to expect from you. Also, tell them where to adjust their preferences in case they want more or less of you.
